A Bootlegger is literally a man who hides a bottle in his boot (at the time of the Civil War). By extension, during the Prohibition era in the United States (1917-1935),

This was the name given to bootleggers like Al Capone.

The creator of Bootleggers Wild Turquoise shares his love for the United States and in particular for the least populated and most authentic regions of this vast territory through these creations.

He started at the age of 18 to drive along Route 66 with not much in his pocket in an old jalopy called Mustang; just to live the trip to the fullest, about thirty years ago, when it still meant something.

He went to live in the USA just before the big subprime crisis.

For 4 years he visited and lived in different states such as Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Dakota, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and Texas.

It is in Nevada that he puts down his old jalopy and his bag full of old jeans, not far from Death Valley, while making a small business of purchase-restoration-resale on old classic American collection. He spent a few years wandering around with no real goal, except to enjoy life and discover a culture and its origins that are often poorly known beyond the clichés about America conveyed by our media.

As he met new people, he started to make some bracelets for himself, made of Navajo Turquoise and silver beads.

The first Bootleggers bracelet was born in September 2009 between Santa Fe and Gallup, New Mexico. It was in a room in a seedy motel called the Golden Desert Motel - 1205 Rte 66 NM. In the light of an old flashing sign and a 25 cent TV, a relic of the 60's.

Returning to France one summer for a few holidays, he meets the woman who will make him stay. Together they set off several times for a few thousand miles on the American roads in order to find the necessary inspiration to create and build a real collection of jewellery in his image and that of his partner.

This will officially give birth to Bootleggers Wild Turquoise in France.
